Traffic Fines in Qatar: How to Check, Pay and What Happens With a Rental Car

How to check and pay traffic fines in Qatar, and exactly how fines on an Infinity rental car are handled: no admin fee, clear and fair.
Traffic rules in Qatar are enforced with fixed and mobile cameras across the country, so most violations are recorded automatically and linked to the car's plate. If you live in Qatar or are renting a car here, it helps to know how to check and pay fines, and what happens when a violation is recorded on a rental car.
How to check traffic fines in Qatar
- Metrash app: the Ministry of Interior app lets residents view and pay traffic violations linked to their Qatar ID and vehicles.
- Ministry of Interior website: violations can also be checked and paid through the MOI online services.
- Contesting a violation: if you believe a violation is wrong, you can object through the MOI services before you pay it, subject to their conditions.
Fine amounts depend on the type of violation and are set by the traffic authorities, so always rely on the amount shown in the official service.
Most common violations to avoid
- Speeding: follow the limit shown on the road signs, which can change between sections of the same road.
- Running a red light.
- Using a mobile phone while driving and not wearing a seat belt.
- Wrong or illegal parking.
- Changing lanes without signalling or driving in a closed lane.
What happens if you get a fine in an Infinity rental car?
A rental car is registered to us, so any violation during your rental appears on our vehicle. This is how we handle it, with no surprises:
- No admin fee: you pay the value of the fine only. We don't add any processing charge.
- From the deposit, if it covers it: if your security deposit is large enough, we deduct the fine from it and tell you the details.
- Or you pay it directly: if the deposit doesn't cover it, or a violation appears after the deposit has been released, you pay the fine directly, and on time.
- Fines recorded during your rental period are the driver's responsibility.
Tips to avoid fines with a rental car
- Use navigation, but follow the speed limits on the signs, not the app.
- Park only in marked spaces, especially in Msheireb, West Bay and around malls.
- Keep your phone in a holder and use hands-free.
- If you are a visitor, remember you can drive on your home licence for 7 days only; after that you need an International Driving Permit.
